The Epiphone Deluxe represented the pinnacle of Epiphone's archtop line and this one is extra special. Coming from the first year of production, it has features that differ from the eventual standard.  From the front, it bears all of the standards, including the carved Adirondack top, the "checkered" binding, the "side part" headstock shape and the gorgeous Pyralin headstock overlay.  The neck has a larger C-shaped carve.  The back and sides are the main difference, being made of Honduran mahogany, rather than the maple that was most often used and became the standard.  The mahognany in this example is truly stunning with a prominent ribbon pattern. This one also features the early wraparound gold tailpiece which is one of my personal favorite simply designed tailpieces.  The original gold tuners also have a simple elegance, and they also still work quite well no less!  Note the orginal black pickguard which preceded the soon to follow white version.
 
The parallel braced top has a couple of small added transverse braces which do not dampen the top in the slightest.  The sound is remarkably balance from nice, solid lows to shimmering highs.  It also has classic Epiphone bark when called upon.  This is a classic, early 16-inch Epiphone archtop that is truly, exceedingly capable at a broad range of styles. The neck is straight and it plays wonderfully.  The frets are in very good condition with lot of life left.  The original finish shows signs of overspray, and there is some finish checking, but certainly no more than typical for a guitar of this age.

The accompanying case appears consistent with orginal and is in very good condition.  All latches and hinges work appropriately.  The exterior and interior lining are both in very good condition.
