It's not often we get a chance to offer a 45 year old guitar that is in such stunning condition. This guitar was clearly cared for meticulously or was simply forgotten in a closet or under a bed. The finish appears flawless and the gold hardware shows only the slightest wear along the treble edge adjacent to where the pickguard also does. Other than that and a very slight gap where the heel cap meets the binding of the body (there is no
heel joint gap), the guitar presents as new. The original case looks absolutely like new, and the original leather bag/case cover shows only some very light wear on the top. Included with the guitar, case, and bag are the original 1/8" to 1/4" cable (in excellent working condition), original mint condition hang tag, and warranty card. While the back of the headstock is stamped "second", I can find no flaw except for the tiny gap between the heel cap and body binding that could have been considered any significant flaw.
The guitar plays beautifully and sounds amazing (see the demo video here). The guitar has a beautiful, open voice rarely found in this model after the 1960s in my experience. The neck carve is a thin, wide C-shape. The guitar plays great and the neck has a very fast feel.
One would have to look far and wide to find another Gibson Johnny Smith in this condition, especially one with all of the accesories and case candy in such remarkably fine condition.
