All of the parts appear original on this 1980 Firebrand "The SG" Deluxe, except for the speed knobs which have definitely been replaced. The neck pickup is a T-top that is dated July 30, 1980 and the bridge pickup is a Tim Shaw PAF style that has a date code also corresponding to 1980. Under blacklight there is some evidence of some overspray done very long ago that looks like it was done to cover finish wear. Also, the edges of the headstock show evidence of touch up, again appearing to have been done for small dings in the finish. There are absolutely no signs of repairs to the body or neck.
The guitar has a '60s C-shaped neck with a slight taper. The frets show some wear, but should still have at least 50% of their life left in them. The neck is straight with well leveled frets. Notes ring out clearly all over the neck with the action set low. The playability is superb.
The pickups function perfectly, as do all of the electronics. The tone is just what you would expect from this pickup combination. Both sound great, either clean or overdriven. The Tim Shaw can really scream when played in high gain situations. The real ebony fingerboard lends itself to a fast attack too. All in all, this is a very versatile guitar.
The guitar will ship in the pictured Gibson gig bag.
