At TRM we are excited to offer this special piece by master luthier Ric McCurdy.  Ric says he believes he built this guitar in 1996, using Sitka spruce for the top.  The one piece back and sides of quilted maple are from a special piece he obtained in Pennsylvania.  The top shows fine medullary rays throughout and the back, made of that stunning single piece of quilted maple is a real attention grabber.

This X-braced guitar is obviously heavily inspired by Jimmy D'Aquisto's late work, showing features reminiscent of guitars such as the Centura Deluxe and the Avant Garde.  The bridge is made entirely of rosewood, using the D'Aquisto wedge design for height adjustment.  The tailpiece and pickguard have a multi-ply design evoking those of a Centura Deluxe, while the sound holes are similar to those of an Avant Garde.

The guitar plays beautifully and the rosewood fretboard has an extension which allows a full two octaves on the high E string.  The maple neck has a comfortable C-shaped carve.

The sound is full with an even tone from the lowest to the highest notes.  There is great bass response and sparkling highs that are missing in may archtop guitars. The guitar also features a sound port allowing for some of the gorgeous sound to flow directly to the player which is great for a guitar that excels at solo pieces.  That said, it would also be a fantastic guitar for accompaniment.  The condition is excellent with very little signs of wear, including the frets which are also in exceptionally good condition.
