I think the Tal Farlow is absolutely the best value available in a used Gibson Custom Shop archtop. You can get an amazing Gibson guitar on par with an L-5 (albeit laminate) for thousands less. I guess that's why I have two of them. While this one is truly a great guitar, I find that when I want to play a Tal, which is my main gigging guitar, I almost always reach for my '93 blonde. That is why I have somewhat reluctantly decided to part with this guitar from my personal collection. It deserves to be played.
This Tal Farlow, as can be seen in the pic of the label, was signed off on by James Hutchins. "Hutch" has become known as one of the best to run the Gibson Custom Shop, and one of the best builders they had. His guitars never fail to please. This one is no exception. I have no doubt that the next owner will be very satisfied.
It's all original, but has picked up few scuffs and a little buckle rash over the years, almost all from the original owner. It has never had any cracks or breaks. The playability is absolutely superb and everything works as it should. The frets have a lot of life left in them, showing very little wear. The bridge has room for adjustment both up and down. I suppose the color is supposed to be wine red, but it really looks more like a cherry red to me.
The nut width is 1 11/16" and the neck has a rounded C, 50s like profile.
It weighs in at 7 lb 5 oz.
The original hardshell case is included. It has some marks and scratches, but the crushed velvet lining is in excellent condition, all of the latches work, and the hinges are solid.
Free shipping included in the continental US.
