This Campellone Standard has a 16-inch lower bout and a thinline body thickness of 2.25 inches. It also has the keystone fretboard and headstock inlays typical of the Campellone Deluxe. It is made of all solid woods with carved, arched top of spruce and back of maple. The fingerboard is ebony. The guitar is in excellent condition with only a few very small finish dings, as shown in photos.
This guitar was originally made as an acoustic archtop with a floating pickup, but later had a set in humbucker installed with a wooden pickup ring. The pickup is now a Kent Armstrong PAF style humbucker. At that time, the guitar also had the pickup controls installed on the pickguard. The neck had also been thinned with a somewhat irregular shape and was poorly finished. That's how the guitar came to us, so we knew it had to go back to Mark Campellone to correct any issues. Mark reshaped the neck which is now fairly thin, and then he refinished it to match the guitar again. Mark also recommended mounting the pickup controls into the top of the guitar. It shoulld also be noted that the guitar's original bridge was replaced with a genuine Gibson archtop bridge with an ebony base and tune-o-matic saddle. The result is a guitar that again looks as great as it sounds and plays. Those of you who know Mark Campellone's work know that it is impeccable. We are so glad that he brought it to such beautiful condition. The result is essentially a short scale, thinline, 16-inch Wes Montgomery, and it really is able to get that kind of a tone.
The frets are in excellent condition. All notes ring out clearly at all frets. The neck has a comfortable thin, C-shaped carve. This guitar's unique set of features won't be for everyone, but will be an exceptional combination for the right player. It will be a great pleasure to us to deliver this exceptionally made instrument into those hands.
